A Note About SYTE from the Director:
I have spent almost my whole life tap dancing and dedicating my life to learning everything I can about this amazing and beautiful art form. I have been fortunate enough to learn from some of today’s Masters of Tap dancing, and a huge part of my training was being a part of a Pre-Professional Tap Ensemble/Company. My goal has been to offer that same opportunities to students in places a little bit further away from the “Tap scene.”
I originally started SYTE Pre-Pandemic, and it was very successful as the students progressed rapidly! Unfortunately, we had to stop meeting for obvious reasons, but now I'm so excited to be bringing SYTE & Sound back to the Central Florida Area! SYTE has a few meanings, one of course being the Swingin’ Youth Tap Ensemble, but also one of my goals is to Swing Youth Towards Education in dance and life. I want to bring together dancers from any and all studios or training programs who would like to take that ‘next step’ and learn more about an art form that is indescribable in so many ways. This ensemble will have an open door policy in regards to never turning any student or family away because of studio association. I think a huge part of the dance world that sometimes gets lost throughout competitions is the camaraderie aspect and having friends/connections in different places and I want to help promote that through SYTE.
As a tap dancer and teacher of the art form, my first priority is providing a solid and well- rounded education to any and all students. My teaching philosophy is centered around 3 basic principles: Technique, History and Rhythm/Musicality. During each of the rehearsals, we will take some time to focus on each of these pillars, as well as learning and building a choreography repertoire to be performed at various shows, festivals and community events, as well as an end of year show in the Spring time. I want to Swing today’s Youth Towards Education in all aspects; Performance education, dance education, music education and overall life education as well. My goal for any ensemble member that comes through this program is to leave having learned something that will prepare them for their future. Whether that’s a future Tap dance career or just to hone their skills during middle/high school or beyond, SYTE will be a place where kids can grow and develop themselves with guidance from myself and other professionals that will cycle through during the course of the year.
I can't wait to meet you all and dance with you all! Please reach out if you have any questions :)
